It’s that time of the
year again friends. Super Bowl Sunday, the biggest sporting spectacle of the
year, but this year seems even bigger. A lot of factors are contributing to
this, but perhaps none bigger than Ray Lewis’ final bow. There is some debate
as to his place in history, but there is no debating his talent at finding the
front of a camera. The ex-murderer turned prophet of God has found a way to
outdo even Tim Tebow in terms of media ball-cleaning. Beyond one man, stand two
brothers. Thankfully we have the media to come up with extremely clever and
hilarious nicknames that never get old. The Harbaugh Bowl, the Brother’s Bowl,
the Harbowl, and the Jim-Jam Johnboree. Well ok, maybe I made that last one up,
but you get the picture.
Jim Harbaugh and his shiny toy Colin Kaepernick are
taking the NFL by storm and leaving poor Alex Smith a distant memory. On the
other side of the coin John Harbaugh has the benefit of an elite quarterback,
who some consider the best since Joe Montana. By some I mean, Joe Flacco and his
mother. Of course I’ve already mentioned Ray Lewis, but there is never enough
said about God’s right-hand man. It is a terrible injustice that the game has
not yet been changed to the “Super Bowl staring Ray Lewis and company”.
Contrary to popular belief there are still 52 other players that make up the
respective rosters.
This game has all the makings of an old fashioned
slugfest, complete with stout defensive fronts and hard hitting secondaries.
These are the kinds of teams that personify a man’s game. Hide the children as
if Janet Jackson was the halftime performer. I’ll get back to the halftime
entertainment in a minute.
This game will be close, and part of the reason will
unfortunately be Ray Lewis’ stellar play as of late. He’s playing like a young
buck out there and yes the pun is absolutely intended. The difference in this
game will come down to Colin Kaepernick, plain and simple. Kaepernick has a
chance to officially usher in this new breed of NFL quarterbacks by becoming
the first one of his kind to win a ring. My official prediction for this is San
Francisco 27 and the Baltimore Ray Lewis’, I mean Ravens 23. The MVP will be
Michael Crabtree and he will record the game winning touchdown to seal the
game.
Here are my final thoughts and 2 cents for the halftime
performance: Grab some lotion, a couple tissues and enjoy the show. Just
kidding kids, I don’t endorse any kind of inappropriate activity, especially
when you’re watching with your family. That’s sick, shame on you. Enjoy the
game everybody and stay hungry, happy and based my friends.
